We offer psychotherapy and counseling services for adult U.S. service members, their families, and other eligible beneficiaries in Germany — entirely through secure video and telephone sessions, anywhere in Germany. We are the only practice in Germany providing all care by secure video and telephone, with TRICARE Overseas Program (TOP) certification credentialed by International SOS. We also accept Blue Cross Blue Shield – Federal Employee Program (BCBS-FEP), AFSPA – Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP), GEHA, and Cigna International. All our documentation — invoices, clinical notes, forms, and correspondence — is in English.
In 2019, Laura Thornton opened a private practice in Grafenwoehr, Germany, to serve the mental health needs of U.S. military families in Bavaria. In 2026, we transitioned to a fully remote model, expanding our reach from a single location to all U.S. installations across Germany. Today, our administrative offices are in Bamberg, but our therapy rooms are wherever you are.
Our counselors have a Masters degree in Counseling, a formal education in Post-Degree Supervised Clinical Counseling and have successfully passed the National Exam in the USA.
Your therapist provides every session personally by secure video or telephone. For video sessions we use sprechstunde.online, a platform certified for GDPR data protection (DSC.1440.09.2024) and IT security (DSC.1441.09.2024), end-to-end encrypted, and approved as part of our TRICARE Overseas Program credentialing.
Every insurance program we accept reliably covers our services — through direct provider agreements (TRICARE, BCBS-FEP) or through plans that treat overseas providers at the in-network benefit level (FSBP, GEHA, Cigna International).
Direct Billing — we handle everything with your insurer:
• TRICARE — Authorized TRICARE Overseas Program provider, credentialed by International SOS. Direct billing through the iSOS portal.
• Blue Cross Blue Shield — Federal Employee Program (BCBS-FEP) — Direct billing through our agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Solutions.
Reimbursement — you pay for your sessions and submit a claim; we provide all documentation:
• AFSPA / Foreign Service Benefit Plan (FSBP) — FSBP treats overseas providers as in-network and accepts provider charges as billed.
• GEHA (Government Employees Health Association) — A FEHB plan. GEHA treats overseas providers at the in-network level of benefits.
• Cigna International / Cigna Global — Coverage for outpatient psychotherapy requires the International Outpatient Module. Please verify your plan details with Cigna before your first session.
Clients with German public or private health insurance (GKV/PKV), FMP (Foreign Medical Program), or self-pay arrangements would need a different provider.
